How Dietary Supplements are Regulated in Canada
Sovereign Silver and Argentyn 23 set the industry benchmark in terms of safety* and efficacy* and were the first colloidal silver products approved for ingestion by any Federal agency in the world.
Whereas some regulators, clinicians and Federal agencies state that silver has “no functional role” in the body, the Risk Assessment division of Health Canada classified Sovereign Silver and Argentyn 23 under the Trace Element category, meaning “an element essential for the maintenance of good health.”
The Canadian Natural Health Products Regulations require individuals to obtain a product license before they can sell a natural health product in Canada. To obtain a product license, individuals must submit a product license application to the Natural and Non-Prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD). The application must include sufficient data to allow the NNHPD to assess the safety, quality and efficacy of the natural health product when used under its recommended conditions of use.
It took 3 years for Health Canada to properly assess the safety* and efficacy* of Sovereign Silver and Argentyn 23, which were supported by a series of technical evaluations of all specifications on both products, including product purity, quality, identity, composition, strength and stability.
Natural Immunogenics obtained recognition of its silver hydrosol’s safety* and efficacy* by Health Canada, the Canadian Federal Health Agency, in 2012, effectively opening the door for other colloidal silver companies to introduce their products into Canada.
