Whether you are a college student looking to get away with your friends, or a parent looking for a break from a chilly climate, the annual spring break is a time to let loose, soak up some rays and enjoy the outdoors. Of course, staying healthy during vacation isn’t easy, so we’ve made a list of six spring break must-haves that will allow you to enjoy yourself while still being health conscious.
1) A Water Bottle
Hydration is critically important when you travel. If you pack a high-quality, sturdy water bottle for each member of the family that you can easily fill up while you’re on the go, you’ll be sure to stay hydrated. Having plenty of water on hand will also quench the temptation to turn to sugary drinks, which are unhealthy and quickly dehydrate you. We recommend that you use a stainless steel bottle, but if you prefer a plastic waterbottle, be sure it is BPA free!
2) Healthy Snacks
If you are able to bring a cooler with you, pack healthy snacks like fresh fruit, almonds, raw vegetables, string cheese, etc. (TIP: check out the local convenience store for an inexpensive cooler that you can throw away or donate at the end of your trip.) Having healthy snacks on hand will keep you filled up longer, so it’s less likely you’ll crave – and cave into – unhealthy snacks between meals.
3) Natural Sunscreens
After a long winter, there’s nothing like a little sunbathing for getting some free vitamin D, courtesy of Mother Nature. However, you still need to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Unfortunately, there are quite a few chemicals in traditional sunscreens. Remember, your skin is your largest organ, and what you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body rather quickly. Switching to a natural sunscreen utilizes minerals that act as a barrier to these rays, rather than allowing the rays to be absorbed into your skin and then neutralized, as is the case with most commercial sunscreens.1
4) Quality Sunglasses
We’ve talked about how the sun’s rays can be potentially harmful to our skin, but UV rays are equally bad for our eyes. Look for sunglasses that block 100% of UVB and UVA radiation. These sunglasses can protect your eyes from cataracts, macular degeneration and pterygium. They can also help protect your eyelids from skin cancer, as well as prevent wrinkles around your eyes.2
5) First Aid Gel
Sovereign Silver Homeopathic First Aid Gel® is a great travel size product for minor cuts, scrapes, burns (including sunburns), bites, bruises and skin infections. It also reduces pain, calms skin irritations, fights minor skin infections and promotes the healing of the skin. There isn’t any other natural first aid gel on the market that has such a broad spectrum of applications. We hear from a lot of people who won’t go vacation without it.
6) Immune Support
Your immune system is made up of special cells, proteins, tissues and organs. It defends you against the daily onslaught of harmful intruders that want to invade your body and challenge your immune health. You are especially susceptible when you travel and are exposed to challenges we’re not used to. To help support your immune system* anytime you travel, pack a travel size bottle of Bio-Active Silver Hydrosol™, another great product from Sovereign Silver. Bio-Active Silver Hydrosol is tasteless, pure and it’s non-GMO and allergen-free. It comes in a variety of sizes and uses, perfect for any type of travel.
