For many people, summer brings the promise of vacation time and travel with the family. It can also be a time when we steer away from the healthy habits we’ve been trying all year to maintain. With a little preparation and some good old fashioned determination, the summer months can bring an abundance of fun and lifelong memories, while still keeping us healthy and happy.
It sounds simple but dehydration can happen quickly during the hot summer months. Too often, we underestimate how much water we’ll need to stay hydrated. Make sure every member of your family has plenty of water to drink during your travels, whether you are outside or not. Pack reusable water bottles to make sure you have plenty of H2O handy. Keep in mind that dehydration is especially dangerous for children and older adults. Learn the symptoms of dehydration and monitor your family’s intake. Also, be aware that alcohol and sodas are not substitutes for water.
When we travel, our daily routines are disrupted and for many of us, we do not exercise as much as we normally do. Our bodies were designed to move – even when we’re on vacation. So, instead of driving a few blocks to the beach or a restaurant, lace up your walking shoes and walk to your destination. It will give you a chance to get in some healthy exercising, plus you’ll get to explore areas of the place you’re visiting that you would probably miss if you were driving.
Watch out for the Sun
Summer is great for swimming, pool parties, sight-seeing and sunning at the beach, but too much of a good thing is not good at all. Without the right protection, the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can quickly turn a vacation into a trip to the ER. Be aware of the time of day. The sun is at its most dangerous between 10 am and 2 pm. If possible, avoid exposure during these hours. Pack smart by making sure all members of the family have plenty of natural sunblock, hats and protective clothing.
Wherever your travels take you this summer, don’t forget to pack a bottle of Sovereign Silver® First Aid Gel for aftercare won’t stand a chance against it!
Watch the Alcohol
Whether you are at the beach, a picnic, a baseball game or a backyard BBQ, chances are there will be alcohol available in some form or another. As previously stated, alcohol can accelerate the onset of dehydration. While drinking in moderation will serve us well, we tend to go overboard on vacations, and that can lead to all sorts of dangers. In fact, 60% of all fatal burn accidents and drowning list alcohol as a factor as do 40% of fatal car crashes. Drink in moderation – if you’re at least 21 years of age – and BE SAFE!
Pre-Travel Immune Support
Busy airports, too close for comfort airplanes, germy cruise ships and amusement parks… immune challenges are around every corner where summer travel is concerned. Keep your immune system firing on all cylinders by supporting* it before, during and after travel with Sovereign Silver Bio-Active Silver Hydrosol™. Be fully armed with immune support* and first aid care for minor burns and boo-boo’s with our travel-sized 1 and 2 oz products.
Plan a Vacation (and make a plan to relax)
Just because we plan a vacation or trip doesn’t mean we get the rest our bodies need. There’s even stress before a trip to get everything ready and wrapped up before you leave! Too often, we pack so much excitement and adventure into our travel that we forget to slow down and relax. Relaxing is critical to managing stress in our lives. Without it, chronic stress can set in and that can lead to burnout, depression and a wide variety of medical issues. So have fun on your vacation and do those things that make you happy, but don’t forget to slow down every once in awhile and relax. Your body will thank you.
